Prayers are requested for Jan Prisco (St. Charles)

Prayers are requested for Jan Prisco (St. Charles), who has been in and out of the hospital for a while and now is back in.  She is struggling to stay positive in the face of these repeated hospitalizations, which are due to high levels of ammonia in her system (believe I have that right).  She needs prayers for healing and comfort. -- Trudy Harlow

Prayers for Commander Culbertson

Bob Culbertson’s son called this morning to tell us that his Dad is in the hospital some where in the vicinity of Louisville, KY. Commander Bob started having difficulty breathing soon after arriving at his son’s house-the family farm in Pee Wee, KY. He went in the hospital and was treated for pneumonia and eventually released. But after getting home, he became short of breath and was readmitted. He has since been diagnosed with congestive heart failure. Bob asked his daughter-in – law to let us know and he asked for us to pray for him. So guys, please ask the Lord to help our good friend get over this and come back home as soon as possible De colores -- Robert A. Richard

Prayers for Mark Kelliher

Since I got back from Indiana my Rheumatologist has had me on high doses of steroids in an attempt to knock back the inflammation in my hands and crank-back the pain level and grip failure. Today he told me to stay the course on the high dose of Prednisone and he upped the biologic shot dose I take every other Friday (like tomorrow), both of these, though standard treatment for severe Rheumatoid Arthritis, act by compromising my immune system so the white blood cells stop eating my joints. I ask for your prayers. This is a really difficult time with every joint in my body and my hollow organs inflamed. Thank you -- Mark Kelliher Men's 123rd

Update on Jen Cole's Father

A couple of hours ago they identified dad's infection as MRCA...a very infectious bacteria. They have tweaked the antibiotics, his kidneys are slightly better and his other vital signs are strong. Unfortunately, he has to have surgery tomorrow to clan out the infection which seems to have taken root in his hip. It's a strong likelihood that his hip replacement and an additional stent will have to be removed, rendering him immobile until/if he can have a new hip replacement. Just the thought of the long painful recovery that lies ahead is difficult for us all to consider. For now, it's just one step at a time. Dad is in more pain today, and exhausted, since good sleep is elusive. His spirits and mental alertness are not as good as yesterday, but we are hopeful that will improve once he gets some sleep, nutrition, and the infection subsides. Thank you for your continued prayers. We are more grateful than u can imagine. Love, -- Jen Cole

Prayer Thanks from Jerry John

Dear all, First, I want to thank each and all of you for your prayers and your kind thoughts.  The procedure went very well today.  The good news is that they found no blockages in any of the arteries.  But they still don’t know what causes the chest pain.  We will explore that more next week.  Still don’t know why the “changes” changes in the heart rate.  It seems to go up and down.  Other than that all seems to be on track. I will thank the Lord for your support and prayers. Peace -- Jerry John

Love you all. Peace -- Jerry John

Sue Vega's progress

We keep receiving God’s blessings and can’t thank HIM enough for all HIS works. Susan is progressing very nicely. Some of you saw her when we took her to be present at the Installation Mass and Dinner yesterday evening. The warmth and love she received from everyone was overwhelming. She was soooo happy afterwards. This was the very first time she has been out to mass, as well as to a social event. Overall she is making great strides physically. Emotionally she is upbeat most of the time. Cognitively she is progressing but still has a very hard time with the “immediate” present and remembering very short term conversations, actions, etc. But she has made such great progress since the onset of the stroke that it is God’s work at hand to see her move forward. -- Luis

Ken Telesca Update

On Monday, 2/28, my neurologist confirmed that the EEG gave evidence that I have a seizure disorder, so I have to be chauffered until July 21.

Since then, on Wednesday March 2, I fell at the Ballston Metro station, about 25 feet from the top of escalator as I was walking to the curb to be picked up by Peg. I tripped on buckled pavement that I did not see in front of me. A woman who saw me said the same thing happened to her recently.  A visit to my orthopedist Thursday (3/3) led to diagnosis of a slight break in my knee cap, for which I am being treated with needing to wear a leg brace 24/7 at least until I see him next week. The treatment is to prevent further injury that would necessitate surgery.

All of a sudden, the driving restriction pales in comparison to my knee problem. - Ken Telesca

Tuesday, March 1, 2011

Ken Telesca asks: 1. son-in-law father and 2. me

1. Russell's, (i.e. my son-in-law) father (Gary Ramey) has been in and out of the hospital since Labor Day weekend, beginning with surgery for correcting an aortic aneurism near his kidneys, followed by treatment to restart his kidneys, which did not work. He now undergoes daily dialysis. To complicate matters he developed a pilonidal cyst (it was removed) from being on a bed without exercise. He has no appetite and lost almost 100 pounds, down from being a robust six foot three 250 pound guy. Russell and his brothers think their Dad should be discharged to a rehab facility instead of going home because his care needs are significantly greater than his mother can handle; however, Mrs. Ramey wants to honor her husband's wish to get out of the hospital.

2. About a month ago I had a memory loss about something Peg thought I should have clearly known. She called my neurologist who ordered me to the ER. The ER gave me a TGA diagnosis (Transient global amensia), which my doctor has followed-up with an EEG to rule out seizure. In the meantime I'm prohibited from driving (Virginia law requires one to be seizure free for six months in order to drive a car). The EEG was done 12 days ago, and tomorrow (2/28) I have an appointment at noon with my neurologist to learn the outcome of the brain functioning test. I'm praying that the doc can rule out seizure and that this is God's will. FYI: recent MRI on 1/13/11 showed no changes in brain structure since previous scan in June 2010.

Prayers for Freddie Wall's son, Stephen

Dear Pray-er friends,

I am asking for your prayers for my son, Stephen, who will have surgery today at 11:00.  He ruptured his biceps tendon at the elbow, and it must be repaired surgically for him to regain full use of his arm. The good news is that he is right-handed , and it is his left arm. I am confident that the surgeons know what to do, but after the surgery life at home will be difficult, with four little boys demanding attention.

Thanks! – Freddie Wall
